Suki Dhanda

Suki Dhanda’s most recent body of work titles Race, Place and Diversity by the Seaside is a humble exploration of the historic part Plymouth has played in the history of race in the United Kingdom and the ways in which diversity is expressed within the country’s Ocean City.

In Dhanda’s talk she expressed that this body of work was her personal artistic response to the Brexit vote and how she feels that the results caused a great deal of uncertainty amongst many, leaving them with confusion regarding their place in this country and what will happen in the years to come.

Throughout Dhanda’s talk give on Race, Place and Diversity by the Seaside she had also mentioned a few of her aims for the project some of which I found interesting and may take inspiration from in my personal work. She stated that she had intentionally made the Ocean a key theme as she felt it symbolised the limitless growth of diversity in the city and how that this feature resonates with many around the world.
